CDC Learning Connection December 2012: A New Look is Coming

December Spotlight on COCA

Clinician Outreach Communication Activity (COCA) helps clinicians deliver optimal care to patients by providing them with the most current and reliable, evidence-based information on emerging health threats, such as pandemics, natural disasters, and terrorism.

Through COCA, public health emergency updates and clinical reminders on current health threats are disseminated to health professionals, such as has been done during the recent Multistate Fungal Meningitis Outbreak Investigation. http://www.bt.cdc.gov/coca/.

This month’s CDC Learning Connection Spotlight features examples of web-based education products and resources for clinicians related to emergency preparedness and response, and emerging health threats. Some products highlighted this month include the following:

Influenza Prevention and Control for Children and Youth with Special Health Care Needs
Planning for the Whole Community: Addressing Access and Functional Needs Before, During, and After Disasters
Community-based Disaster Risk Reduction

New Course from CDC

Prevention Benefit of ART for HIV-infected Patients

This web-based course will provide clinicians with information about research that shows the prevention benefits of antiretroviral treatment (ART) for HIV-infected patients. The course is intended for clinicians who treat HIV-infected patients and offers continuing education.
